Collection: Gretchen Koehler

Gretchen Koehler is a renowned North Country fiddler with a unique style that “fuses the danceability of authentic traditional fiddling with the finesse of a classical violinist”.  A fiddler since the age of 5, she was exposed to a rich blend of musical traditions: Old Time, New England Contra, Quebecois, Ottawa Valley, Appalachian, Bluegrass, Cape Breton and Celtic.  She was inducted in the North American Fiddler’s Hall of Fame, and received a Living Traditions Award from Traditional Arts in Upstate New York, in recognition of her preserving the region’s musical traditions.

Gretchen is also a gifted composer.  Her compositional style blends both tradition and innovation. Recently, her collaboration with pianist, Daniel Kelly, produced  “Live from Hill & Hollow”.  The upcoming “Fiddling with Traditions” CD will be their latest collaboration.
