Jonathan Durant

 

The TAUNY Folkstore welcomes artisan leather worker Jonathan Durant.  

Jonathan was born in Heuvelton and now lives in Canton.  He attended SUNY Maritime College to earn a Merchant Marine license and has worked on ocean-going tug and barge units for 16 years.  He divides his time between Canton and working as a Chief Mate on a tugboat in the Gulf of Mexico.

His passion for crafting leather work began with creating a “Mary Poppins” bag for his wife.  Jonathan is self-taught, and finds joy in knowing that his work is being used by others.  All items are hand made in his shop, and each piece is truly one-of-a-kind.
