Collection: Mona Zillah

Residing in the North Country, Mona Zillah, owner of bunnymuff designs, is a fibre artist who makes hand knit items and knitting patterns. Mona works with natural fibre yarns sourced from small farms, which supports each region’s local economies.  Using mainly wool and traditional patterning, including Fair-isle and stranded colorwork, they create garments and accessories for all types of weather(even up here in the North Country!)

Mona received a NYSCA grant in 2024 for their work which resulted in “Garments of the Past Knit into the Future”, the final Grand Gallery Exhibit in the TAUNY Center.

The installation, a milestone in Mona’s ongoing work, utilized fiber arts and local/sustainable fibers to consider identity, climate change, sustainability, and resilience in New York’s North Country.  The piece included creations of new designs for hand-knitted garments, an exhibition of original, handmade works, and a pattern co-created by North Country knitters with a corresponding public knit along.  Each individual piece within the installation was in conversation with the North Country, gender, and Mona’s own heritage and culture of China, Hawaii, and Scotland.

Mona lives in Madrid, NY.
