“In retirement, with a small woodshop of equipment I had been collecting over the years, I was looking for a creative outlet that would be both inspiring to me and that others would find pleasing enough to want to have in their home or give as a gift. When I was asked to make a cutting board as a wedding gift for someone I decided, with the Holidays approaching, to make a batch more. When all the boards I made sold quickly, I had my “Aha Moment”.
“I have always admired the Shaker approach to furniture design, with their focus on natural wood, clean lines and functionality. I’m also inspired by the work of George Nakashima who designed and built beautiful pieces of furniture that were centered on nature and the trees they came from”.
The resin serving boards/trays that she has made for TAUNY is a new addition to her work. She begins with live edge wood, removes the outer bark, flattens and clamps the wood into a mold. She blends pigments into her epoxy resin and pours the mixture into the mold. After several days, excess resin is removed and all is trimmed, sanded and finished. The resin has a stunning translucent appearance.
All finishes and epoxy resins are FDA approved for food use.
