“Flames” Batik Wall Hanging

Batik, an ancient oriental craft, is a wax resist process, in which melted wax is painted on fabric  and then immersed in a dye solution.  This process is repeated again and again for a more intricate and rich design.  

Klara was born in Hungary and received her training at the University of Applied Arts in Budapest.  She concentrated on textile design, particularly the technique of silkscreen.  When she came to the United States she began to produce batiks, primarily with Japanese dyes and textiles.
